As a company that prides itself on the ability to be completely “Virtual” (that is, we no longer have an official brick-and-mortar location), we enjoy the benefits of free WiFi from what seems like an endless supply of locations throughout the world, and obviously a large portion of that time we spend right in our own home-town coffee shop(s). Check out this news report from NPR about the debate coffee houses are having about limiting free WiFi. Say it isn’t so!
It’s hard to imagine that we’d be called anything else but Smack Dab Studios…but way back in September of 2004 there were quite a few other company names we discussed. In fact, at one point “Smack Dab” wasn’t even our first choice. I searched through my old files and found our “short list” of potential company names. Good for laughs!

Special to the Savannah Business Report
Moving a successful business to a new town takes a leap of faith and a lot of guts. But for Hannah Byrne, owner and chief creative officer at Smack Dab Studios, a full-service graphic design and Web development firm, relocating to Savannah nearly three years ago turned out to be the best professional decision she ever made.
Byrne founded her company in Atlanta in 2004. Before starting Smack Dab Studios, she worked in a series of technology roles with Ben Carter Companies, Emory University Healthcare System and Blooming Cookies. She decided to go back to school to earn a degree in graphic design and became vice president of creative services at What’s Up Interactive, where she worked with high profile clients such as UPS, Coca-Cola, Rock-Tenn, FOX Television and Tropicana.
